Description

Emerald Ash Borer (agrilus planipennis) – Errington, Vancouver Island

This beetle is an invasive species accidentally imported from Asia.  Eggs are laid in bark crevices in ash trees.  The larvae stage feeds on the sapwood causing severe tree damage.  In the adult stage, they chew through the bark to emerge, and feed on the tree leaves.
